Music

​The purpose for my class is for students to learn how to understand, appreciate, and express themselves using music. My class is a safe space for students to explore and learn through song and movement.

Each grade will participate in a program once a year. First, Third and Fifth grades will participate in the Christmas program, and Kindergarten, Second, and Fourth grades have a Spring Program. Fourth grade also participates in the Veterans Day Program in November, as well. 

I closely follow the IDOE Fine Arts Standards, which can be found here: https://www.in.gov/doe/files/Indiana-Academic-Standards-Grades-K-12-Music.pdf. I incorporate elements of reading, science, math and social studies into my lessons to show students how music can stretch across all disciplines. It’s not just singing and dancing! My goal is for students to discover a love for music.

In my  classroom, we only have one rule, but it is taken very seriously:

“If what you are doing interferes with learning, hurts someone, or keeps you from being your BEST self, then you should not be doing it.”
